Jonathan brings a career’s experience of health, life sciences and regulation, both nationally and internationally. This includes more than 10 years corporate executive leadership as Policy Director in the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), alongside wider experience in the Department of Health and Social Care, and the European Commission.
Jonathan’s regulatory experience includes leading the MHRA’s work to prepare for exit from the European Union, working with the NHS and industry representatives to stand up regulatory responses to supply chain risks in the early stages of COVID, and leading the policy aspects of the authorisations of the first COVID vaccines.
He has also worked across government on new policy developments to accelerate patient access to quality therapy including with the Office for Life Sciences, BEIS, the NHS and regulatory bodies.
Internationally, he has represented the UK at Ministerial meetings, at EU meetings such as the management board of the European Medicines Agency and has led the support to the work of the CEO-level International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities. He has represented the MHRA and the UK government in many external networks, boards and meetings, giving him substantial insight into critical but complex interfaces both within government and also out into industry, health services and the third sector; he has also experience in giving evidence to UK Parliamentary Select Committees.
Jonathan has also been a Ministerial private secretary and worked for the FCO and the European Commission in Brussels on health, pharmaceutical and life sciences.
Jonathan is a graduate of the London School of Economics and of the University of Oxford; he is also a national Trustee of Citizens Advice.
